A roof replacement is a good time to evaluate attic ventilation because the roofing system and attic environment affect each other. Ventilation is intended to help manage heat and moisture by allowing air to enter and exit the attic in a controlled way.

Intake and Exhaust Work Together

Exhaust vents cannot perform properly without adequate intake. A balanced approach generally requires both, with the exact design depending on the home and existing attic configuration.

Why It Matters During Replacement

Installing new shingles without considering the existing ventilation can leave an old problem untouched. During a roof project, vents, soffit intake, blocked airflow, bathroom exhaust terminations, and other attic conditions may deserve attention.

The correct solution should be based on the actual home rather than simply adding more vents because more seems better.
